See Rules & Information to see how to get to play in the Alaska Salmon CupTM hockey game. The first requirement to play in the game is to catch a King Salmon, or, to have one caught on the hockey player�s behalf by a proxy. The King must be caught by a person listed on a sponsored team entry form on file with one of our sponsors listed below, or, at the office of the Wasilla "Outdoor Youth" Hockey Assn., 851 E. Westpoint Dr. Suite 202 Wasilla, AK, 99654. 907-376-7533; Fax 907-376-9099. Registration of a team may occur anytime until noon on July 11th.

Fishing may occur from time of registration of team until the times listed below, and must be reported to tournament headquarters by phone, fax, or email.

Signed score sheets must be returned by all fishers (or by their proxies who caught the king) by 5:00 p.m. on Friday July10th, or, within 24 hours of catching the king, whichever is first to occur. Extensions of this rule may be granted upon unavoidable circumstances if the extension is requested within the reporting period. Score sheets may be turned in at the Curtis D. Menard Sports Complex on July 12th or may be turned in by fax to 907-376-9099 at any time before 2:30 p.m. July 12th.

Your salmon must be reported on an official score sheet, which will be provided upon request, and, to each team captain at or after check in. Check in may occur at any of our sponsors listed below,  or, at :

Friday July 10, 2009

6:00 p.m. Fishing Reports for seeding by weight close.

Signed score sheets attesting to the weight of the catch must be returned by all fishers by 6:00 p.m. on Friday July 10th in order to become eligible for team or individual seeding into the Salmon Cup game.

7:00 p.m. Five players will be named to each hockey team based on weight of catch.

These persons are the fishers or their proxies from the first and the second place fishing teams, the fisher or that person�s proxy who catches the biggest fish during the weekend of July 4th, and the camper who catches the largest King during the Alaska Summer Diversity camp.

The players will wear the Jerseys of 2008 and 2009 Stanley Cup finalists. The first place team will don the jerseys of the 2008 Stanley Cup winners, Red Wings and the second place team will wear the visiting jerseys of the Penguins.

8:00 p.m. Draft begins for Elite Eight

Each team�s coaching staff will draft four elite players from all persons entered or proxied into the tournament. Each team may also draft an alternate in case the drafted player does not complete eligibility by catching a king, or by being a proxy for someone who has caught one.

Saturday July 11, 2009

6:00 p.m. Qualification period for "The Draft" closes

All contestants, including the Elite Eight will have until 6:00 p.m. to qualify for eligibility by catching a King or by being named as someone�s proxy to play in the hockey game. This eligibility, is subject to later verification and must be communicated to tournament officials by phone, fax, or email delivery. It is the obligation of the eligible persons to confirm that their eligibility is established and is known to tournament officials.

  • 3:00 p.m on
    You are invited to tailgate and swap fishing tales at the Curtis Menard Sports Complex in Wasilla.

  • 4:00 - 6:30 p.m.
    Pickup games, barbeque, frisbee & music. signed catch reports for any fish caught within preceeding 24 hours may be turned in at The Menard Complex.

  • 4:30 p.m.
    signed catch reports for any fish caught
    within preceeding 24 hours may be turned in.

  • 5:00 p.m.
    Atamian Cup Shoot-out Competition semifinal
    rounds if necessary

    6:00 p.m.

    Rostered players sign in and report to locker rooms. 
  • 6:30 p.m.
    Teams take the ice for warmups, introductions and National Anthem. 

  • 7:00 p.m.
    Game with Atamian Cup shootout finals during the final intermission.
